Love-Hate and Minimalism

There are millions of artists in the world today, so what makes Dorothea Sandra Art unique?

Starting from her “essential self” (an uncluttered place of purity and honesty), she creates and pushes “forces” (life/energy) to flow through paint and canvas for others to benefit from and enjoy. She’s a minimalist and an abstract artist with the power to create beautiful art!

I had a love-hate relationship with my mother and aunties. It wasn’t their fault! They were all truly beautiful and charming and also—

  • direct descendants of the 1600s French in North America

  • fluent speakers of French

  • retained their European reserve and politeness throughout the centuries

  • and decorated themselves and their homes in amazing couture styles and fashions of the day

I often stuck out like an ugly abstract painting in the middle of all their refinement, and the pressure on me was intense, especially during my early teen years. These lovely women represented so much elegance and class. I felt their frustrations with me and knew they often worried, ‘What is wrong with her? Why won’t she get in Vogue style and conform?’

By nature, I’m not a contrary or difficult person. I’m just a minimalist. I’m someone who looks for and values the essence of things and simplicity. Although I absolutely love and adore high fashion and art and culture (my favorite stops when I was a child and teen were galleries and art museums), what I knew early on in life and still know now is as the paint leaves my brush and channels and creates on canvas beauty with simplicity real happiness comes from within, from inside myself, from looking for meaning from life.

I don’t need to look outward for my happiness. Within this glowing place of inner happiness and harmony is from where my abstract art flows.
